Until one has loved an animal a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.

Our wonderful rhino babies

Each of our rhino orphans is blessed with his/her own personality – just like humans. Each of these babies is adorable in his/her own unique way. Some need lots of love and attention, whereas others are real rebels and want to have things their way.

One thing that all have in common: They all love milk, going for long walks, playing and hanging out in the mud.

We love each of them.

Latest news from the Orphanage

*UPDATE*

J'aime is continuing to thrive at The Rhino Orphanage. She now weighs 131kg which means she has gained 31kg since her arrival in March. Her stab wounds have completely healed and are barely visible making the team at TRO incredibly happy with her progress!

J'aime and her best buddy, Joey, have recently been joined by another orphaned lamb. Sadly, Penny's mother died shortly after giving birth so she came to the orphanage to join our odd little herd.

Although we've been monitoring Joey closely since his arrival, unfortunately last week he was diagnosed with pneumonia. We have had to use a nebulizer to treat his pneumonia and so far Joey is doing much better. We would like to thank Martjie for organizing the nebulizer and medication for Joey!

Stay tuned for more updates on our special little herd!

**Update**

Our orphaned buffalo calf, Hatari, has settled into life at the orphanage very well. He drinks 10L of milk every day and now weighs 80kg! Hatari is a lot more vocal than our rhino calves and let's his carers know when he's hungry by bellowing as loud as he can. Buffalo are very intelligent and are known for their exceptional memories and Hatari has shown us this by recognizing each one of his carers.

In this video Hatari is coming back from a walk with carer Jamie.
